Looking to the Future

Political parties have three main objectives. They organize for success. They provide a forum for discussion of issues important to the voters. They elect their candidates to office so that those individuals can carry out the mandates of the people who elected them. All three of these goals are important, so parties provide an important service to their communities irrespective of their victory record in election contests. It is nice, however, to win.

Chairmans Greeting
Dear Republican Supporters:

Thank you for your support and your vote in the past.

Your Hidalgo County Republican Executive Committee is eager to work with you for the advancement of the Republican Party at the national, state and local levels. We recognize the public's discontent and frustration with Hidalgo's "good-ole-boy" one party monopoly of corruption and patronage at the expense of the people.

The solution is a viable two-party system. We are dedicated to building a local Republican Party that visibly promotes conservative principles and offers an alternative to the voters. Our GOAL is to bring you a voice in local government.

Your support is needed to achieve that goal. In this web site and our quarterly newsletter will inform you about our activities and progress in building our grassroots organization, and we will apprise you of local, state and national news which will help inform the electorate. We need your campaign support and your financial support to maintain our permanent party headquarters, provide administrative support and election workers during election cycle and to maintain party election data records and this web site! We at the local party receive no funds from the State or National Republican Party. Your contributions to the local Hidalgo County Republican Party are essential and will be used for the local party only. In short, we need your involvement to build the grassroots organization.

The plans are ambitious, but necessary to establish a viable two party system and to make a difference in the next two to seven years. Please join the Hidalgo County Republican Executive Committee in its efforts to make the two-party system a reality by pledging an annual sustaining membership fee of $25, $50 or more if you wish. Please fill in the sustaining membership form, and mail your contribution to the Hidalgo County Republican Party.

Remember: There is no Republican Party without your financial support. Together we can make the difference; together we can break the monopoly over the taxpayers in Hidalgo County; together we can bring change by realizing the dream of electing Republicans in Hidalgo County. Together, we can have a two-party system.

Sincerely yours,

Hollis V. Rutledge Jr.
Hidalgo County Republican Party Chairman

Sheila M. Valles-Pankratz

WHEN AND HOW THE BIG BUCKS WERE SPENT

The Washington Post recently investigated the 2004 election and how effective the two parties/candidates were in spending money. The results are unsurprising – Rep’s are acknowledged to be about one election cycle ahead of the Dem’s when it comes to strategy and technology – but the methodology the Post revealed is fascinating.
